800 students killed in insurgents attacks, says NANS

Students under the aegis of National Association of Nigerian Students has carpeted President Goodluck Jonathan's administration for failing to rescue abducted Chibok school girls after 100 days.

The students in a statement by NANS Public Relations Officer, Olaogun Victor, expressed dissatisfaction with President Jonathan's performance in education and security.

Olaogun, in the statement made available to our correspondent alleged that no fewer than 800 students have been killed in several attacks by suspected members of the Boko Haram sect.

He wondered that few hours after a bombing in Abuja, President Jonathan could not resist dancing to 'Alanta' - a popular music - at a political campaign in Kano

He said, "since the dreaded insurgent group, Boko Haram, commenced its wanton destruction of lives and properties, not less than 800 students have been killed especially in the orgies of murderous attacks on the Federal Polytechnic, Mubi, Adamawa State University, School of Hygiene, Kano, College of Agriculture, Damaturu in Yobe State, among several others.

"Or do we talk about the killing of innocent youth service corps members whose blood politicians have continued to march on to power? We cannot but imagine the harrowing experiences of these innocent girls who may have been subjected to terrible experiences within the last 100 days in captivity.

"There is hardly any nation where this could happen and the President will still have the temerity to stage political campaign and dance “alanta,” as our own President did in Kano just few hours after the Iyanya bombing. It was a huge display of insensitivity and gross misconduct."

He described the request of $1bn loan to fight insecurity as "fraudulent", threatening that students would mobilise en masse against the National Assembly if the request was granted.

“All the senators and the members of the House of Representatives should be warned that if they want to return to their constituencies without being stoned, they should not even consider the loan request, not to talk of approving it," he added.
