Redeemer University’s Student Who Killed Dad Was Facing Disciplinary Committee – VC

Saddening,
The Vice Chancellor, Redeemer’s University, Prof. Debo Adeyemo, on Monday [July 7] said the student of the university who murdered his father was facing the institution’s Disciplinary Committee before the incident.

Couple of days ago, Tolani Ajayi, 300-level student of History Department, was reported to have slaughtered his father, a lawyer, with a knife and butchered him afterwards. The remains were said to have been dumped in a bush along the Canaanland Street area, where the victim lived before the police recovered them. Tolani Ajayi was reportedly told the police that his action was prompted by his late father who he said slapped him for not responding to all the prayer points he (the deceased) was raising.

Commenting on the incident, Prof. Debo Adeyemo told PUNCH that the student had been facing the disciplinary committee before he committed the murder. His offences, however, were not revealed “to avoid compounding the grief of the affected family”.

The VC cautioned the media to be more investigative in their reporting as the school authority was not contacted before the news broke.

“We frown on the way the media went into publication without verification from the school. It was by chance that the incident happened on campus. If the father does not have a house here, it would have happened outside the school because the school is on holiday,” he said.
