StarTimes unveils new sports channel

SATELLITE television outfit, StarTimes, has unveiled a new channel, Star Sport 2, which, according to its officials, is dedicated to airing a variety of sports on the pay-tv platform.
Speaking at the unveiling of the new channel in Lagos Tuesday, Public Relations Manager of the NTA-Star Network, Irete Anetor, said Star Sport 2 has a rich, diverse and global outlook aimed at meeting the teeming needs of current and prospective customers, who are constantly searching for rich sports content.
“It will offer our sports inclined customers as well as prospects a diverse range of sports like soccer, tennis, golf, rugby, car-racing, cricket and extreme sports. The content of Star Sport 2 will include live broadcasts and highlights, sport news, sports programs, sports movies and exercise education,” he said.
He promised that soccer lovers would have a lot to watch out for on the channels, as StarTimes has the exclusive rights to air some competitions.
Among the programmes in the new channel, he disclosed, are the Guinness International Champions Cup and the European qualifiers for UEFA EURO 2016, adding that the channel will also be home to Summer Football (2014), and Ligue 1 matches amongst other exciting sports line-up.

Anetor stated that with the Guinness International Cup, starting on Friday, soccer fans could catch up with some of Europe’s most prestigious clubs as they engage in the tournament, which is a transformation of traditional European club pre-season competition.
“Twelve of Europe’s most prestigious football clubs would be involved in the tournament; the clubs include Real Madrid, Manchester United, Manchester City, AC Milan and Liverpool FC,” he said.
He added that Arsenal fans should look out for the exciting line up of the legendary Gunner’s programme in the Summer Football, which has already started airing on the new channel launched on the pay-tv platform.
As July marks StarTimes’ fourth year anniversary, Anetor StarTimes, is, more than ever before, committed to ensuring that its customers enjoy the best of digital television at an affordable price. “We would not relent in ensuring that we meet the demands of our customers for quality content as we have done with the launch of this new sports channel. Besides we, as a platform for digital migration, are ever committed to helping Nigerians actualise the 2015 deadline by ensuring that Nigerians get the best of digital television at an affordable price. Nigerians can confidently migrate into digital space with StarTimes as we provide the latest technology in DTT operations – DVB-T2 technology – which will give over 80 channels and quality digital entertainment.
