ASABA - There are very strong indications that the Delta state government would soon commence the process of recruiting over 900 Deltans into it civil service just as it said that the Federal Government circular on weigh-in allowance will be fully implemented for media practitioners in the state. The State Head of Service, Sir Paul Evuarherhe, made the disclosure when he played host to the Executive of the Delta state Council of Nigerian Union of Journalists NUJ, in Asaba the state capital. He said short listing of candidates had already commenced, maintaining that merit would not be compromised even though the multi-ethnic features of the state would be well represented. The Head of Service assured that the exercise would soon be completed, adding that caution was being observed to avoid the irregularities that characterized previous recruitments. He assured that to get the NUJ and other unions involved in the computation of the weigh-in allowance for journalists to ensure all-inclusiveness in working out the financial implication of the allowance. He said his office was open to all and willing to entertain suggestions and advice from stakeholders, but charged labour unions to always explore every means for dialogue and negotiation to reduce incidence of strikes. On his part, the Chairman of the Nigerian Union of Journalists in the state, Comrade Norbert Chiazor, pleaded with the Head of Service to use his good offices to fast tract the implementation of the weigh-in allowance for journalists in the state with the inclusion of state Information Officers in line with the Federal Circular on the allowance.
