The bank explained that N80 million had been earmarked for the scheme which is payable over a period of five years. A total of 200 winners are expected to emerge throughout the duration of the promo.
Speaking at an event in Lagos yesterday to unveil the promo, the
Managing Director/Chef Executive Officer of the bank, Mr. Nnamdi Okonkwo
said the development was another way to affirm the bank’s support for
the cashless policy of the Central Bank of Nigeria.
He added: "We affirm our commitment to developing products that
contribute to the general well being of the society in which we operate.
It is also part of the new direction of Fidelity Bank that is anchored
on innovation.
"At Fidelity Bank, we are not in business to follow the crowd and
that is the essence of this initiative. We are aware that some are out
of school, not because they are not intelligent or lack of will to go to
school, but the challenges of costs of bills associated with school.”
The Fidelity Bank boss noted that the initiative, beside increasing
awareness on the need to acquire a savings culture, is also a veritable
instrument to advancing the quest for financial inclusion in the
country.
On her part, the Executive Director, Shared Services, Fidelity Bank,
Mrs. Chijioke Ugochukwu said the ‘Save 4 Scholarship’ savings promo is
the fifth in the line of campaigns the bank had undertaken in recent
times.
“This is our most important and most contributory promo so far. This
promo is our unique contribution to the development of education which
is the most basic of human aspiration,” she added.
According to her, high cost is making education appear to be an elite
privilege. She stated that education all over the world should be made
available to every level of the society.
“The Fidelity promo is a unique one. We shall be giving out scholarship
packages and gift items to support the educational aspiration of our
customers.
“When we are talking about education we are talking about everything-
catering school, university, polytechnic, apprenticeship etc,” she added
