The remains of nine-year-old primary three pupil, Gbenga Oladejo, who drowned on Tuesday morning on his way to school, have been recovered.
He was said to have been dumped by the flood water at the foot of a drainage channel close to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi Araba, Surulere, Lagos.
It was reported that Gbenga and his sister, Tolani, were heading for school at Myyoung Barracks, Fadeyi, Yaba, after a heavy downpour, when he fell into the drainage.
The drainage is on Agege Motor Road, Mushin.
Tolani, who struggled to draw him out, was also swept away by the torrent of the water, but survived after she held on to an iron.
Our correspondent reported that while Tolani was admitted to a private hospital in the Mushin area where the incident happened, her younger brother had yet to be seen.
The Social Secretary of Kubada Community Development Association, Odi Olowo council, Adeshina Adigun, said that his body was sighted around 7am on Wednesday.
He said the boy was already dead.
Adigun said, “The people living around LUTH found his body this morning (Wednesday) around 7am. He was already dead. They have also deposited the remains in a mortuary.”
The Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Command, Ngozi Braide, when contacted on the development, said she would call back to react.
But she had yet to do so as of the time of filing this report
