Geological Mapping:Federal University Of Petroleum Resources To Represent Africa

WARRI -The Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Petroleum Resources (FUPRE), Professor John Ovwata Etu-Efeotor said the University is now making waves after the turbulent years that characterised its inception, as Geology students from the University is set to represent Africa in the World Geological Mapping Exercise scheduled to take place in the United State of America in September.


The Vice Chancellor, disclosed this when members of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ),Warri Correspondents Chapel led by its Chairman Comrade Mike Ikeogwu paid him a courtesy call in the University in Effurun, Delta State.


While expressing gratitude to God that peace that eroded the University has returned, Prof Etu-Efeotor said “we are here now as a cohesive body, as lovers of the University, to build it dedicated to God, to build it of sound academics, to mould future generation...this is our goal. to make this country and this continent proud and to do it in a harmonious way free from acrimony”.


Speaking further, Prof. Ovwata Etu - Efeotor said the three FUPRE students came tops in the Africa Geo-Science Students Conference (AGSC 2014) held recently in Ghana. “FUPRE is making greater strides than what many people think, we just have a pouch of students who went to Ghana and made waves and they are going to represent Africa in the World Geological Mapping Exercise holding in the U.S. This is the kind of news we want to hear”. He gave the names of the students as Anine Lawrence(best postal presenter), Eze Stanley(Technical Paper) and Idoko Rose.


Professor Etu Efeotor who holds a second degree from the prestigious Harvard University and reputed to have drilled 22 wells for the Exxon Mobil further disclosed that the university now has two well equipped laboratories while the contract for the third earlier abandoned has just been awarded.


He hinted that ExxonMobil is planning to donate equipments worth over 22 million Naira apart from the laboratory donated to the university.


He called on well meaning and prominent Nigerians to donate towards a chair as well as prizes at the university as a way of immortalizing their names.


He said” for the first time FUPRE is receiving gifts from well wishers, from donors who have come to realise that we exist, and that we are living in harmony with God’s own faith. Most importantly, when God harmonises your movement, you make tremendous progress,”


He thanked members of the NUJ for the visit saying that the press is a veritable tool for moulding the society.
