The Delta State Police Command, Asaba, have rescued 34 children
allegedly kidnapped by some people, killed two of the suspects, while
three kids are yet to be seen in Okunzu community, Issele-Uku axis, few
kilometres away from Asaba, Delta State.
Sources said in the last few weeks in the community, there have been
concerns by its residents over alleged ritual activities necessitating
them to appeal to the state government for more security.
The police Public Relations Officer, DSP Celestina Kalu, said the
kids were rescued in the hands of the suspected kidnappers after they
were deceived from their various homes into a pick-up van with
registration number AA 136 XX, adding that on a tip-off the detectives
ambushed where three of the suspects escaped while two others were
killed on the spot.
Stressing that the police will do everything possible to make life
unbearable for kidnappers, cultists, and hoodlums in the state, DSP Kalu
disclosed that there was an earlier petition by some of the residents
over the alleged invasion by ritualists.
However the whereabouts of the three missing kids remain unknown. The
parents of the kids had raised alarm on Thursday when the children who
were playing outside their homes in the night went missing, searches
conducted didn’t’ produce result.
Speaking to our correspondent, a resident of the community who did
not want her name mentioned in the print said, “We appeal to the
security agents not to relent in their efforts in ensuring that they
combed every nooks and cranny where this suspected ritualists and
kidnappers have taken over because we are afraid.
