It emerged last night that Liverpool have agreed a deal with the Spanish giants, and an announcement is likely early next week.
The shamed Reds striker has agreed a five-year contract worth £9.5m a year or around £185,000 a week.
That makes him the fourth best-paid player at the Nou Camp after Lionel Messi, Neymar and Andres Iniesta.
But
his contract also contains a "bite-clause" which allows Barcelona to
impose significant financial penalties if he steps out of line.
Talks
between Barcelona and Liverpool started not long after Suarez bit
defender Giorgio Chiellini during the World Cup clash between Uruguay
and Italy last week.
Liverpool had hoped to bag
£80m for their talismanic striker and although the deal represents a
club record sale for the Merseyside club they have been forced to lower
their demands with Suarez's future at Anfield untenable following the
THIRD biting incident of his career.
The two sides are still discussing how and when the full fee is paid, which is holding up a formal announcement.“The shamed Reds striker has agreed a five-year contract worth £9.5m a year or around £185,000 a week”
Liverpool want the majority of the fee paid up front while Barcelona want to pay in instalments.
Suarez was thrown out of the World Cup in disgrace by FIFA who banned the 27-year-old for nine internationals and from all football activity for four months - meaning he will not be available to play for his new side until the end of October.
However, football's world governing body have already confirmed the ban will not prevent Suarez from undergoing a medical ahead of his transfer.
Earlier this week Suarez said sorry to Chiellini and vowed never to bite another player, an apology which was praised by Barca power brokers and smoothed the way for his move to the Catalan giants.
And despite Suarez's history of shameful behaviour on the field, it seems the prospect a strike force of Suarez and Messi is simply too good for new Barca boss Luis Enrique and sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta to turn down.
Liverpool remain keen on Barcelona forward Alexis Sanchez but the Chilean international, who is also being chased by Arsenal and Juventus, has given no indication he is interested by a move to Anfield meaning a straight cash deal for Suarez is more likely.
